Heading into the 2020 Tokyo Olympic Games, could this be Australia’s best chance at an Olympic Basketball medal?

With the success of Australian players in the NBA and the continued growth of the NBL is this the Olympics for redemption and a chance to make Basketball in Australia a real competitor against AFL, A-league and NRL. Our best result at any Olympic Games is 4th, and the last time was 2016 with a loss to Spain in the Bronze medal match by 1 point, it seems 2020 could be the year to break the drought of Olympic success for Men’s Basketball in Australia.

On paper we currently have the most exciting team to take to the Olympics if we can keep them all fit, Ben Simmons, Patty Mills, Matthew Dellavedova are all leading the charge in the NBA with Dante Exum still an exciting unknown in the NBA and not since Gaze, Longley and Heal have we had more household known names playing the game.

It is an exciting time for Australian Basketball and maybe it is Olympic Success that will give Basketball in Australia the growth and permanent place in our sporting landscape.
